Neoplasms of the posterior segments of the third ventricle and pineal region in children: experience of surgical treatrment

Operations on the pineal region are characterized by certain difficulties. They are conditioned by complexity of its microtopographic anatomy, proximity of brain stem segments to an operation zone, morphologic variety of neoplasms of this localization.

The report deals with information on surgical approaches to the pineal region and posterior segments of the third ventricle, the nearest and remote results of operations in children with neoplasms, localized in these areas, a morphologic structure of removed tumors.

Surgical tactics and a possible volume of neoplasm removal are discussed.
