Pain in the back is one of the main causes of population disability. Usually this pain is conditioned by pathology of articulationes zygapophysiales of the spine. Conservative methods of treatment give either a short-term effect or no relief. Pain, endured for a long time, makes patients take analgesics constantly. Depression is a usual state for them.

Transcutaneous radio-frequency destruction of articular nerves is a sparing surgical method, used by us for interruption of chronic pain impulses from affected articulationes zygapophysiales of the lumbosacral spine, when conservative treatment is a failure.

SRK-12 radio-frequency electrode (Radionics RFG) is inserted in projection of articular nerves in an X-ray operating room under local anesthesia. Destruction was carried out in every point at 80oC and an exposure of 120 seconds.

There were 60 patients with pain syndrome, caused by arthrosis of articulationes zygapophysiales of the lumbosacral spine. An average age was 39.6 years. A period of follow-up was equal to 58 months. Good and satisfactory long-term results were watched in 76.7% of cases.
