NEUROSURGICAL CARE IN MOSCOW (ACCORDING TO THE DATA OF NEUROSURGICAL DEPARTMENTS OF HOSPITALS OF THE COMMITTEE ON PUBLIC HEALTH)

Neurosurgical care in Moscow is rendered in 12 hospitals (Cklifosovsky Research Institute of Emergency Care, Botkin Municipal Clinical Hospital, Hospital for War Veterans N 2, Medical Sanitary Unit of the ZIL plant, Municipal Clinical Hospitals N 7, 15, 19, 20, 33, 36, 37, 68) which have neurosurgical departments with 816 beds in total. There are CT and/or MRI apparatus in 9 in-patient departments; 5 departments are equipped with angiographic devices. A number of patients admitted to hospitals in 1998 is 16 378 men; 7460 of them were operated, total and operative lethality was equal to 4.8% and 12.3% respectively. There were 11 195 patients with craniocerebral injuries, 493 cases with brain tumors, 652 patients with acute disorders of cerebral circulation, 430 cases with traumas of the spine, 1908 patients with diseases of the spine and spinal cord, 122 patients with diseases of the peripheral nervous system.

Emergency care is rendered by 3 neurosurgical teams. In 1998 neurosurgeonís advice was given to 3245 patients of departments working in other fields of medicine.

The report contains the results obtained by neurosurgical departments in treatment of diseases and traumas of the nervous system as well as the results of activity of consulting teams for the last five years.
